15 Minute Workouts
Scarsdale, NY -
How much time each day does it take to get into shape? "Fifteen minutes," says in-demand personal trainer, Brad Schoenfeld. In the current issue of Self magazine, Schoenfeld lays out fitness routines for a variety of goals, each taking just a quarter-of-an-hour to complete. "Do intense, efficient workouts and you won't have to devote your life to the gym or treadmill," he professes.
Schoenfeld says the concept of short, intense workouts helps to maintain exercise adherence. "Studies show that people who do two to four 10-minute bouts of exercise a day fit in more fitness per week and stick with their workout programs longer than those who do one 20 to 40-minute daily session," he states. "And there is evidence that regular exercises who log 15-minute workout sessions are more than 20 percent more likely to maintain their fitness goals than if they did 45 minutes sessions."
The kicker to the program is that you have to work hard, and you can't skip days. "Ultimately you get out of exercise what you put into it. It's quality over quantity," Schoenfeld says. "But that assumes that you maintain a regimented approach and don't slack off."
