AEROBIC EXERCISE FACTS AND FALLACIES
Scarsdale, NY -
Does training on the Stairmaster give you a big butt? Is sweat a good indicator of exercise intensity? In the current issue of Ms. Fitness Magazine, fitness expert Brad Schoenfeld sheds some light on these topics and more.
"The myth that using the Stairmaster expands the size of your butt needs to be put to rest," says Schoenfeld. "Stair climbing is an aerobic activity performed at sub-maximal intensity. There simply is no mechanism for low intensity training to have any appreciable affect on muscle development."
As for sweating up a good workout, Schoenfeld sets the record straight. "Sweat is your body's mechanism for dissipating heat. When you sweat, it's simply an indication that your body temperature is elevated. Think of it this way: you can sit in the sauna for an hour and sweat like crazy, but you certainly wouldn't have don't anything for your muscles or cardiorespiratory system."
Please contact Brad Schoenfeld to arrange an interview and/or for additional quotes.
