Better Body Sculpting
Scarsdale, NY -
What's the number one reason people don't get results from their exercise routine? "Poor lifting technique is definitely at the top," says fitness expert Brad Schoenfeld. In the current issue of Fitness Magazine he explains why form is so important to getting the most from your training efforts.
"Muscles are designed to work in certain ways," Schoenfeld says. "If you don't allow them to contract properly, results will be suboptimal." And then there's the matter of injury. "When you don't train properly, the soft tissue structures that support joints tend to be stressed in ways they're not meant to be stressed. This is the biggest cause of training-related injury."
As for specifics, Schoenfeld cites the squat. "Squatting is such an important part of our everyday lives, but most people don't know how to perform a proper squat in the gym. You must keep your back straight and utilize hips to iniate movement." He says to think of sitting back into chair. "When you sit, you don't bring your knees forward from your body, but this is exactly how many lifters descend into a squat."
