FITNESS EXPERT DEBUNKS COMMON MYTHS
Scarsdale, NY -
"Myths and misconceptions abound in the fitness industry!" So proclaims renowned personal trainer Brad Schoenfeld in the current issue of American Fitness Magazine. How do these myths arise? "A variety of places," says Schoenfeld. "The big guy in the local gym, the mainstream media, even some person trainers who aren't up on the research. Once a myth gets out into the public, it can spread quickly."
Schoenfeld lists six of the most common myths that people take as gospel. One of the most controversial is that you should train your abs everyday for best results. "People somehow have been led to believe that the abs are a 'special' muscle that can endure daily training. They're not. The abs have the same basic makeup as the biceps and quadriceps. If you train them too frequently, they won't develop properly."
Schoenfeld also debunks the myth that muscle will turn into fat if you stop working out. "Muscle and fat are completely different properties. The theory that one can turn into the other is like saying an apple can turn into an orange. It's a physiologic impossibility."
