Increase Your Kicking Power
Scarsdale, NY -
Anyone involved in martial arts needs to have a powerful kick. In the current issue of Inside Kung-Fu magazine, fitness expert Brad Schoenfeld shares his secrets for attaining kicks that have kick. "Power is a combination of strength and speed," he says. "If you want maximum improvements in power, you need to train with moves that incorporate both."
As Schoenfeld points out, bodybuilders train to look good in posing trunks, not to throw a spinning crescent kick. "Training should follow the principle of specificity," he says. "The more specific training is to the actual activity, the greater the transfer of results."
In terms of specifics, Schoenfeld recommends a healthy dose of plyometric exercises be incorporated into a routine. "Plyometrics are terrific exercises for power development," he says. "Moves like jump squats and various bounding exercises increase lower body speed-strength in a manner that transfers to martial arts."
Please contact Brad Schoenfeld to arrange an interview and/or for additional quotes.
